Posted September 18, 2012. My Rides (5) The KTM RFS engined EXCs are known for soft intake valves and the WR is known for it's solid valve train. In my experience the KTM should have the intakes checked every 250-500 miles in hard use and 500-750 miles easy use, your millage may vary. The exhausts are not an issue and can go 3X that.
The KTM's will be less expensive because they are older. Make sure to buy one from an old guy if you can. Try to find one that hasn't been raced/ abused with low time/ miles. My impression for reliability on the 500 EXC (2012-2016) is that its a one off model where the KTM engineers some how managed to design a bike model that is reliable.
